Honeymooners escaping to the icy continent will soon be able to hit new heights in a hot air balloon
If you're looking for a slightly more unusual way to celebrate your matrimony, why not take to the skies in no other place than the North Pole. The new trip will give 100 lucky travellers the chance to view the North Pole from the heights of a hot air balloon this summer.
Discover the World and Peregrine Adventures are two tour operators conducting the new excursion from June 2012.
Managing Director of Discover the World Clive Stacey expressed his excitement over the launch: "This takes visiting high latitudes to a whole new level!
The experience will last a total of 15 minutes and the balloon will remain tethered throughout. Only four people will be in the balloon basket at once, giving honeymooners an intimate bird's eye view of the North Pole.
With Discover the World, the balloon ride is an optional extra on a 13-day excursion around the Arctic. Conditions permitting, the ship-based trip will also explore the remote archipelago of Franz Josef Land where guests will have a good chance of seeing polar bears, walrus, Arctic foxes, belugas and a few of the 101 seabird colonies.
A chilly honeymoon option, but for those looking for warm nights to snuggle in - this is perfect!
