Overview
HighLives has specially selected an opportunity that we believe provides the best way of discovering one of the world’s unspoilt natural wonders in carefree comfort.
Journey far into the isolated Aysen region of southern Chile, an enchanted area where the Andes range reaches the coast and nature leaves a powerful reminder of her majestic power.
Appreciate the beauty of the islands, channels, fjords, ice fields, snowdrifts, and mountain ranges that have emerged from thousands of years of tectonic movements, volcanic and glacial activity.
Hidden deep within this barely-inhabited wilderness is Puyuhuapi Lodge and Spa, a tranquil haven of comfort and relaxation that forms the base for our Patagonian adventures.
From the lodge- which is only accessible by boat- explore nearby isolated lakes and forests on foot, mountain bike, boat or kayak. Upon your return, unwind at the spa’s thermal waters, take a soothing massage or therapy treatment and enjoy superb gourmet food and drink.
Set out in the comfort of a stylish catamaran boat, taking in the dramatic fjords before witnessing the awe-inspiring 70-metre ice shelf of the San Rafael glacier where it plunges into the sea.
Itinerary
This programme provides a superb combination of exploration and discovery across land, lake and sea while allowing visitors to benefit from the region’s tranquility in peace and comfort.
Day 1: Balmaceda - Puyuhuapi
After arrival at Balmaceda airport, our journey begins through the Aysen region, crossing 45 minutes of Patagonian pampas to reach the city of Coyhaique. After lunch, we continue along the scenic Austral highway for 5 hours to Puyuhaupi Lodge & Spa. Much of the trip is along gravel road passing through extraordinary landscapes of dense forests between mountains and cliffs. Reach the Lodge pier and arrive via a 10-minute motorboat crossing.
Days: 2, 3 and 4: Puyuhuapi Lodge & Spa
Puyuhuapi Lodge is the starting point to explore the region, with numerous guided excursions into the unspoilt forest of the Queulat National Park. Observe the effects of thousands of years of glaciation at sites including the Hanging Glacier and Pudu Glacier. Explore the quiet waters of Dorita Bay by boat and kayak, or visit the village of Puyuhuapi and talk to the first settlers to arrive in this region. Back at the Lodge, enjoy the rejuvenating thermal waters & spa, offering relaxation massages and the benefits of thalassotherapy sessions to unwind after a day full of memorable excursions. Refined cuisine with fresh regional sea food, vegetables direct from our own greenhouse and a selection of fine Chilean wines.
