Action packed family adventure – perfect for adventurous families with teenage children. An exciting mix of out of the way serious adventure and a hint of luxury too. This trip is ideal for families who enjoy a full action holiday while getting off the beaten tourist trail and experiencing something of the real Sri Lanka. As usual we can tailor to suit – please call or email our expert consultants.
This trip will appeal only to adventurous families who enjoy active and 'off the beaten track' travelling. It is not for everyone.
But for those you it appeals too – we are pretty sure you will absolutely love it. People have called it ‘a life changing experience’ and certainly there are few better ways to open your children’s eyes to how different people live and work.
The trip starts at The Mudhouse, which while it is very ‘eco friendly’ and rustic in style, you are extremely well looked after and the introduction to rural Sri Lanka life is a peaceful and relaxing one.
Moving on, the cultural triangle is an area rich in history which should fire the imagination of the most difficult teenager. Your base is a central hotel with a great pool as cooling after off a hard day’s site-seeing is essential. For younger children we recommend several more active excursions where the children can really get out and explore the ruins in their local context.
The main adventure is a trip to Abode, deep in the Knuckles mountains and unconnected by road to the rest of Sri Lanka. The communities in this area are unable to maintain their traditional way of life and greatly welcome the chance to demonstrate their skills and generate enough revenue to retire in the area they in which they were brought up.
We follow this with some action packed adventure in Sri Lanka’s adventure capital – Kithugalla, location of the film’ Bridge of the River Kwai’. White water rafting, kayaking, bird watching, trekking, canyoning, mountain biking – up to you!
You’ll take in the sunrise in Horton Plain’s National Park (or even an overnight climb up Adam’s Peak!) and the hill station of Bandarawela, before dropping down to some well deserved luxury in one of the fantastic family villas on the southern coast of Sri Lanka. These villas are fully staffed so you are extremely well looked after!
Following a final night in Colombo, the holiday sadly comes to an end!
