Day by Day Trip

  • Day 1 – To Beijing: - Fly overnight to Beijing with
    British Airways. (N)
  • Day 2 – Beijing: - Morning arrival and transfer to
    the Novotel Peace Hotel for 2 nights. (N)
  • Day 3 – Beijing: - Day at leisure. Optional
    excursions available. (B)
  • Day 4 – To Xining: - In the morning, fly to Xining
    and stay at the Sanwant Hotel for 1 night. Late
    afternoon visit to Dongguan Great Mosque
    and evening visit to Shuijing Xiang Market. (B)
  • Day 5 – To Lhasa: - Morning tour of Beichan
    Temple and Kumbum monastery. This
    afternoon, take the overnight train to Lhasa. (B)
  • Day 6 – Lhasa: - Afternoon arrival in Lhasa and transfer to the St Regis Hotel for 4 nights. (N)
  • Day 7 – Lhasa: - Morning visit to Potala Palace,
    the former winter residence of the Dalai Lama,
    and Chagpo Ri. Afternoon visit to Jokhang,
    the spiritual centre of Tibet, and Barkhor
    market. (B, L)
  • Day 8 – Lhasa: - Full-day tour of Sera monastery,
    Drepung monastery and Norbulingka, the
    Dalai Lama’s former summer palace. (B, L)
  • Day 9 – Lhasa: - Full-day excursion to Ganden
    monastery, the oldest Gelukpa monastery. (B, L)
  • Day 10 – To Gyantse: - Morning drive to
    Gyantse via Lake Yamdrok-Yamtso. Stay 2
    nights at Gyantse Hotel. (B, L, D)
  • Day 11 – Gyantse: - This morning, visit Gyantse
    Kumbum monastery and Palkhor Chode
    monastery. Afternoon at leisure. (B, L, D)
  • Day 12 – To Shigatse: - Morning drive to
    Shigatse. Stay 2 nights at the Shigatse Hotel.
    Visit Tashilhunpo monastery, former seat of the
    Panchen Lama, and the temple of the Maitreya
    Buddha. (B, L, D)
  • Day 13 – Shigatse: - Join the pilgrims on a
    morning walk around Tashilhunpo monastery
    in the morning. The remainder of the day is at
    leisure to explore the bazaars and Shigatse Old
    Town. (B, L, D)
  • Day 14 – To Lhasa: - Morning drive back to
    Lhasa. Stay overnight at St Regis Hotel. (B, L)
  • Day 15 – To Beijing: - Afternoon flight to Beijing
    and transfer to the Langham Place, Beijing
    Capital airport for 1 night. (B)
  • Day 16 – To London: - Morning shuttle bus
    transfer to the airport and fly to London. (B)
  • Discovery Tour: - This tour includes some long
    drives, often on bumpy roads. The tour involves
    a long train journey on day 5 and it is highly
    recommended that you bring refreshments
    and snacks for this, as we cannot guarantee
    the quality of products sold on trains. The
    train journey on day 5 is in a four-berth soft
    sleeper shared compartment. Tibet is at high
    altitude and anyone with a relevant medical
    condition or any medical concerns should
    obtain clearance from his or her GP before
    travelling. The hotels outside Lhasa are simple.
    The government sometimes prohibits us from
    using Tibetan guides, therefore your guide may
    be Chinese.
  • Meal Basis: - (B) = Breakfast, (L) = Lunch, (D) = Dinner, (N) = No Meals
