Romantic things to do in the UK this Easter

Love Easter? Alexandra Gregg explores seven romantic Easter weekend activities to enjoy with your partner

Just like Christmas and New Year, Easter is the perfect opportunity to spend some quality time with the one you love. It may not be Valentine's Day, but that doesn't mean there isn't scope for heaps of romance. Here are seven eggs-cellent things to do across Great Britain this weekend - perfect if you plan to sweep your belle or beau off their feet.

1. Bottle-feed lambs, Wales

If you're anywhere near a farm around Easter, you'll be familiar with the constant sound of bleating: it's lambing season of course! Pull on your wellies and saunter hand-in-hand down to Carreg Cennen Castle and farm, near Llandeilo, where you'll be tasked with giving the struggling newborns a helping hand. It's the perfect opportunity for animal lovers and wannabe farmers alike to partake in such a wonderful experience. Don't forget to visit the castle ruins too. This enticing hilltop fortress just oozes romance.

You can feed the lambs and keep a watchful eye on labouring ewes until 30 April. Entry to the farm is free but tickets to the castle are £4 for adults.

2. Hunt for Easter eggs, Nationwide

The National Trust has over 300 Easter egg hunts this weekend, supported by the chocolatiers at Cadbury. Join families and other couples in searching spring woodlands and coastal trails, historic homes and castles - hoping to discover a sweet treat. Trail costs vary and don't include usual admission fees.

Alternatively, transform the hunt into a romantic game for two by setting up your own trail at home. Simply fill some plastic Easter eggs with amorous items - such as sweets, romantic poems, love notes or perhaps even an extra-special ring(!) - and hide them around the house.

3. Sample tea and Easter-themed cakes, London

Fluffy icing adorned with edible decorations and infused with vanilla or chocolate, accompanied by a steaming cup of char… We all love a bit of tea and cake, and Easter is the perfect excuse to treat your partner to a magical experience in a tasty hideaway. Head to West Hampstead's Bake-a-Boo shop where you can sample a wide selection of teas and Illy coffees, as well as old-fashioned sweets and of course, scrumptious cupcakes.

The shop is closed on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, but open noon-6pm on Good Friday and 10am-6pm on Saturday 19 April.

4. Visit the Eden Project, Cornwall

Explore your relationship with nature at the Eden Project. With the world's largest indoor rainforest in captivity, not to mention world-class architecture and cutting-edge sculptures, the famous dome is the perfect Easter weekend activity. For couples with children, there's even aChocolate Unwrapped workshop for families to get messy and create their own bars while learning about the history of this tasty treat.

The Eden Project is open 9am-6pm daily. Adult tickets are £19.95 in advance or £23.50 on the door.

5. Stay the night at The Cornwall Hotel

Take advantage of a one-night Easter break at The Cornwall Hotel Spa and Estate, where you'll get a full Cornish breakfast in the morning, a hot cross bun afternoon tea, and a three-course meal in the evening - all for one bargain price. And if that's not enough, you'll both have full use of the spa facilities and have the chance to decorate an Easter egg together.

The package is just £139 (£69.50p/p/p/n). One-night breaks are available on Thursday 17, Friday 18 and Sunday 20 April.

6. Get all aflutter at Rievaulx Abbey, Yorkshire

For a touch of piece, tranquility and age-old romance, head to the North York Moors National Park and discover the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey. For bird lovers visiting this Easter weekend there will also be expert falconers demonstrating the art of training, exercising and hunting. The event will focus particularly on how falconry was used during the First World War.

The Falconry of the Empire show will be held from noon-5pm on Saturday 19 April and Easter Monday 21 April. Entry is £6.50 for adults, or free for English Heritage members. The ticket price includes entry to the event and the Abbey.

7. Picnic in Windsor Great Park, Berkshire

Just around the corner from Unique Honeymoons' HQ is Windsor Great Park - our favourite spot for a romantic jaunt for many reasons. Its home to deer, ducks and bunnies and is immaculately kept by The Crown Estate. Most importantly, it covers 4,800 acres, making it the ideal place for a thoroughly Royal picnic, walk, cycle or horse ride. Take a blanket, some bubbly, sandwiches, and your Easter eggs of course (although eat them quick so they don't melt!).

Entry to the park and car parking is free. A footpath map is also available from the Royal Windsor Information Centre, in the Windsor Royal Shopping centre.
