Romantic things to do in London on Valentine’s Day

Alexandra Gregg checks out what romantic activities are on offer in London this Valentine’s Day

Heading to London this 14th February, but unsure how to impress your loved one? Well fret no more, London is undoubtedly a city for lovers, and here are seven swoon-worthy activities to show your partner just how much you care…

1. Enjoy a spot of tea

Where? Chelsea Riverside Brasserie, Wyndham Grand at London Chelsea Harbour

Nothing screams five-star luxury quite like enjoying an afternoon tea against a backdrop of the River Thames. And you can do just that - infused with a dollop of clotted cream and fresh strawberry jam - at Wyndham's Chelsea Riverside Brasserie. There are few such intimate spaces that sparkle by candlelight. Prices are £40pp or for an extra £10pp you can upgrade your experience to include a glass of Taittinger Brut champagne.

For couples that have trouble finding a babysitter, why not try the hotel's new posh fish finger afternoon tea for both adults and children? At just £9.50pp, it's a fun yet enjoyable alternative for the whole family on Valentine's.

2. Let your love take flight

Where? Wherever the pilot takes you!

Push your relationship to dizzying heights as your soar above the capital with The London Helicopter. Observing the city sights from the clouds has never been so spectacular - especially with your spouse at your side. You can either enjoy a shared couples ride, embarking from Battersea Heliport, for £298, or have exclusive use of the aircraft for £598. London Helicopter is also offering just one couple the chance to glide past a glorious sunset skyline for £998. This unique, once-in-a-lifetime offer is available on a first come, first served, basis.

3. Discover your destiny

Where? Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum

Head to the Big Smoke's most bizarre attraction, Ripley's Believe It or Not! museum in Piccadilly Circus, for a free palm reading this 14th February. Between 1-5pm, resident fortune teller 'Psychic Sunita' will predict whether a couple's latest argument was just a storm in a teacup or a sign to call it day. If marriage is on the cards, the happy couple can seek inspiration for the big day from the museum's collection of wedding dresses made out of toilet paper, a tuxedo shaped from duct tape and even a scene from Charles and Diana's royal wedding recreated using ants.

Entry is £26.95 per adult or for a 15% discount, visit www.ripleyslondon.com

4. Spend the night

Where? The Ampersand Hotel

A romantic break in London is the ultimate Valentine's Day gift and a stay at The Ampersand Hotel, in South Kensington, is sure to woo loved ones. Guests looking for the wow-factor can book a Deluxe Studio (from £280); complete with king size bed, a grand freestanding bath and panoramic views of London. And with its stunning botanical themed interior, love is sure to bloom.

To sprinkle even more enchantment on the experience, a book of love poetry is placed in guest rooms along with a love note that you can pen to your loved one prior to the stay.

5. Speak the language of love

Where? The London Eye

Celebrate amore through words and music at The London Eye. Between Thursday 13th and Sunday 16th February, world-renowned wordsmith Judge the Poet will bring 'The Language of Love' to life, creating unique compositions for loved-up London. Musical serenading from a singer, guitarist and a ukulele duo will also set the scene, transforming the iconic wheel for the occasion. The attraction itself will be adorned with declarations of love in different languages and will be illuminated in red - bathing the South Bank in a passionate glow.

A selection of Valentine's experiences in this unique setting will be on offer. From the £31.54pp Valentine's Champagne Experience - offering a glass of Pommery Brut Royal and a mini selection of Hotel Chocolat luxury chocolates per couple - to the £375 Cupid's Capsule, a private rental. And on 14th February, visitors will be treated to capsules decorated with fresh cut red roses.

6. Pen a love letter

Where? The Caird Library

Torn apart by work and war, long-distance lovers have written letters to their loved ones for centuries, hoping one day they will be reunited. The resourceful Caird Library in Greenwich, presents 'Love in the Archives', a unique collection of ancient romantic letters, penned by men who served in the Georgian Navy. Get immersed in these declarations of love amid the fairytale setting of the Queen's House, before enjoying a candlelit tour of your surroundings.

Entry is £46 per couple, but tickets are selling fast - so get in quick! The cost also include two glasses of prosecco per person.

7. Take a romantic stroll

Where? Along the Thames, Kew Gardens, the city's many Royal parks - the list is endles...

London is bursting with romantic places to explore on foot - even in frosty February - so take to the streets with your partner this Valentine's. Gently amble along the Thames arm-in-arm, stopping to watch street performers on the South Bank. Or feel forever young as you gaze up at the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens; all while wrapped up warm of course. But if you do get too chilly, don't forget there are plenty of city pubs to entice you into making a pit stop along the way.
