Romantic honeymoon gestures

Romantic honeymoon gestures

Let them know you love them with an extra romantic gesture

The world's most famous memorial to love, the Taj Mahal in Agra, was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his third wife Mumtaz Mahal. Last week in Gloucestershire, another tribute from a devoted husband was discovered by a hot air balloonist. Farmer Winston Howes planted a field of oak saplings 17 years ago, leaving a peaceful heart shaped meadow where he can remember his late wife.

Don't wait until your gesture is a memorial rather than a celebration! Romantic gestures and tributes don't need to be big or expensive. Here are a few ideas for thoughtful gestures to earn yourself some honeymoon bonus points:

SMALL

Hide a love letter in their luggage - A simple note with 'I LOVE YOU' is all it takes.

Spell out your married names somewhere they'll just 'happen' to see them… in pebbles on the patio, in the sand outside your beachfront bungalow, chalk on the pavement outside your house. In the sky in vapour is probably a step too far.

MEDIUM

Ask for their favourite drink to be ready on arrival, or plan a romantic picnic, or dinner on a special table somewhere.

Get ready for reality - Organise a food hamper to be delivered on your return home so your first thoughts on returning to real life aren't: "Damn, there's no milk and we're out of washing powder…"

Build something to last - We don't all have the resources to build a Taj Mahal or plant a meadow, but you could donate your time (or money) to building schools, planting trees or stuffing your rucksack and taking equipment with you when you go away.

LARGE

Go crazy! If there's one time to go to town on a romantic gesture, it's your honeymoon. You could have a hot-tub flown to the top of a mountain by helicopter for vintage champagne and Michelin starred canapes (yes, really). You could organise a fireworks display, sort out a surprise upgrade or whisk them off for the dinner of their lives. Or you could just…

Be unexpectedly thoughtful - remember the hints, pick up the nuances and put some real thought into what your partner likes then make it happen.
