News: Romantic cottage breaks more popular than hotel stays

A survey of British couples reveals that nearly two thirds would rather spend their romantic retreat at a holiday home than in a hotel

The average night in a hotel costs around £100. Compare that to a cottage - where you can get a weekly rental for as little as £200 - and it's no surprise that holidaymakers prefer staying in a private property than a boutique hotel! Not only that, but cottages allow for uninterrupted lie-ins, as well as the chance to take your pooch, cook your own meals and have those added extras (like a hot tub) to yourself. You can even stay in quirky accommodations like these, rather than a standard hotel.

The results are in…

According to the survey, conducted by property agency The Little Domain, 64% of the 1,000 couples asked would choose a cottage over a hotel when booking their perfect romantic getaway. Results also revealed that men are 4% more likely to book a cottage break than women, while holiday homes proved to be the ideal place to allow young love to blossom; three quarters (72%) of 18-24 year olds chose this option.

James Morris, managing director at The Little Domain, said: "There can be a lot of pressure to make sure that a couples' holiday is perfect, and a holiday cottage is the ideal home-from-home. You have everything you could possibly need and, most importantly, you can do all of the simple things that you don't get time to do at home, even if it's just spending the day relaxing in each other's company!"

The findings follow a separate study by the Glasgow City Marketing Bureau. It claimed that the perfect romantic weekend away consists of a two-hour lie-in, six hours exploring and eight hours eating and drinking.
