Sunsets seep romance. And nowhere more so than the Greek isle of Santorini, the perfect confection of teetering white-wash tumbling into the sea on a craggy archipelago - all that remains of a long-blown volcano.
"The clifftop village of Oia, at Santorini's north-west tip, is the best spot for sunset-watchers," recommends Dudley der Parthog of Sunvil Holidays (www.sunvil.co.uk). "The view is over open water, with the spectacular caldera below."
It does get busy though. So to make your evening a little less crowded, try Ikaria, a remote island just off Samos, instead.
"The view from any of the three clifftop tavernas at Nas is beautiful as it's over open sea; below is a beach, a river and the remains of the Greek temple of Artemis," adds der Parthog. "The restaurants here are all excellent. Anna's is well known for its locally caught seafood; follow the sunset with a romantic lobster dinner - for half the price you'd pay on Santorini."
