Wild camping
Why we love it: Sleep in remote romantic spots - for nothing
Norway's not known for being a bargain. But it is famed for its wonderful wilderness, and the law that applies to it: allemansrätten - every man's (and woman's) right to roam and camp respectfully. So, once you've bought your cheap flight over, pick up a few essentials at a local market, leave the city and pitch where you like for free! Fly to Stavanger to explore the western fjords or to capital Oslo to head into the Nordmarka forest.

Vineyards & Castles of the South cycle trip
Why we love it: A pedal at your own pace, with fine food and wine en route
The rural southern provinces of Puglia and Basilicata are peaceful and largely unspoiled - perfect for a relaxed honeymoon with plenty of la dolce vita. On this self-guided cycling trip, pedal along country roads, past medieval castles, bird-filled lakes, meadows sprinkled with orchids and butterflies, and neat vineyards - stopping to sample the spoils. Stay in four-star hotels and rural agriturismos (great places to try local dishes). The journey ends amid the unique alleyways of Matera, where traditional sassi houses (including your hotel) are cut into the rock.

What: Caribbean sea, sun & scuba
Why we love it: You can learn to dive together in paradise
The Calabash Hotel, on lush and spicy Grenada, is small but perfectly formed. It's also a great place to get your PADI dive qualification - Scubatech Grenada operates in the calm waters of Prickly Bay, and caters for all abilities. No pressure though: you could just lounge in your idyllic sea-view suite and enjoy a massage at the Heaven & Earth spa. Or head out into Grenada's national parks, great for honeymooners wanting a jungle escape.

GWR_Humu -1
Ski+Sun - combine Whistler & Maui
Why we love it: It's the perfect combination of world-class skiing and world-class beach
Can't decide between snow-powder pistes and sand-powder beaches? Then have both. Start in Whistler, one of the world's greatest winter resorts; skiing, snow-shoeing, heli-hiking and more are available here, plus there's great après ski. Then raise the temperature on the Hawaiian isle of Maui, rich in Polynesian culture, lush forest, volcanic peaks and (Jan-Feb) humpback whales. Stopover in Vancouver too, to add a cosmopolitan edge.

Karl _Sep 09-6806-227
Stylish rainforest retreat
Why we love it: Has the perfect weather in peak wedding season, plus a mix of adventure and luxury
Borneo's the complete package: good weather June-September, when most Brits get hitched, and a great balance of adventure (including close encounters with orang-utans) and pampering. There are many options for exploring the region Selective Asia's Sabah In Style itinerary is spot on. On day one you'll be straight into the jungle to relax in your forest bungalow and meet rescued Orang-utans. Next is the paradisiacal island of Lankayan in the Sulu Sea. It's within Borneo's 'turtle corridor' (see hatchings Jun-Sept), and in a vast marine conservation park so the diving and snorkelling is sublime. Back on the mainland, delve into the very heart of Borneo, cruising on the Kinabatangan River and exploring the Danum Valley. Finish with a few days beachside again at one of the world's top honeymoon hotels.

U-Ben Bridge , Amarapura , Mandalay , Myanmar
Authentic Asia in style
Why we love it: A tip-top tour of the hottest honeymoon spot
After decades virtually off the travel map, Burma is finally opening up and, for now, is a place of traveller's dreams, full of red-robed monks, colonial relics and romantic teak monuments - and short on chain shops. TransIndus's Burma Classic trip takes in all the best sights, with stays in some of the best accommodation. Visit Yangon's majestic Shwedagon Pagoda; cycle around Mandalay; marvel at the plain of Bagan, strewn with temples - and ideal for hot-air ballooning over. Inle Lake makes a beautiful finale - you can even arrange a wedding blessing from a Buddhist monk.

Aardvark Dhow Safari Transport
Indian Ocean island-hop
Why we love it: It's the most romantic way to sail around this almost-forgotten idyll
Mozambique's Quirimbas Archipelago is a paradisiacal scatter of 32 coral atolls where locals fish from outrigger canoes and the modern world seems light years away. Explore this backwater on a traditional dhow (sailing boat, above); your crew will navigate amid mangroves and uninhabited isles - ideal for snorkelling and swimming - and set up camp on shore. Finish in a converted mansion on Ibo Island and immerse yourselves in the history - or relax by the pool.

New Zealand

Minaret -summer 01
Utterly opulent NZ
Why we love it: It's the ultimate in wilderness and adventure
Wow. Expensive, but wow. Scott Dunn's Kiwi Adventure is for 'mooners who truly want to push the boat out. The highlight - along with whale-watching in Kaikoura, adrenalin-fun in Queenstown and Maori wild-cooking in Rotorua - is a stay at New Zealand's first luxury tented camp, Minaret Station, which, according to Scott Dunn's Olivia Smith, "takes glamping to a whole new level". Minaret's achingly opulent tented suites are located deep in the Southern Alps, and only accessible by helicopter; food - prepared by a Michelin-starred chef - is as spectacular as the views. You can go heli-hiking on Mt Aspiring, seek out remote fly-fishing rivers, spot wildlife or relax in your hot-tub with a glass of local wine. For the ultimate indulgence, you can even have your tub (and champers) choppered to a snow-capped summit for the ultimate in secluded soaking!
