10 top tips for brides and grooms

Planning a wedding is stressful – whether you’re choosing rings or picking place cards. There are ways to alleviate the strain though, as these tips prove

Summersdale Publishers has released two romance-infused books: Top Tips for Brides and Top Tips for Grooms. To celebrate the launch of this mini-series, we've handpicked some of the best pieces of advice from within the pages to help you feel at ease before, after and during your wedding day - not to mention on your honeymoon. Prepare to let go of all that stress…

For the bride

1. Winding down. Try not to call your spouse-to-be the day before; it will make the grand reveal of seeing them the next day all the more special. If you can't resist, send them a special text message or email to tell them how you feel.

2. Walk the walk. When heading down the aisle, don't zombie-walk your way to the front - look at your guests. The smiles and happy tears of your friends and family will help to relax you.

3. Keeping it together. Look into your fiancé's eyes when you reach the front of your wedding venue - the whole atmosphere will be overwhelming, but the familiarity you share will help calm both your nerves.

4. Looking your best. Don't obsess over how the pictures will turn out - trust your photographer and their experience and enjoy staring lovingly into your other half's eyes.

5. How to honeymoon. Mention you're on your honeymoon everywhere you go - you never know what freebies are on offer to lovebirds.

For the groom

1. Sleep like a king. Getting a good night's sleep before the big day will ensure you feel your best the next day. Get in a good workout during the day and your muscles will feel relaxed and ready to rest at bedtime.

2. Setting the mood. The morning will have been planned with the bride's lengthy beautifying requirements in mind. Don't get dressed too soon; otherwise you'll end up with a baked beans stain on your crisp white shirt.

3. Keeping it together. A great way to mark your relationship with your new father-in-law is to acknowledge him after he's walked his daughter down the aisle, either with a hug, a handshake or a smile.

4. Prioritising your time. With all the friends and family around it's easy to spend your entire day chatting with everyone BUT your other half. Make sure you find each other throughout the night and not just to pose for cameras.

5. The calm after the storm. If you're not leaving for a honeymoon immediately, enjoy a few days together relaxing, taking long walks and steamy showers, and avoid feeling the post-wedding blues by reminiscing about the big day and opening your gifts.
