Hidden beaches, carnival and national parks...Tempted by a honeymoon in Brazil? Simon from Bespoke Brazil shares part 2 of his Honeymoon Secrets
Explore the amazing national parks
Shh... Brazil isn't all about beaches! If you're in search of a more active honeymoon, there are some amazing national parks to explore. Chapada Diamantina is one of the country's best.
Tell me more... Chapada Diamentina National Park is an hour's flight west of Salvador, and has some spectacular scenery, jaw dropping waterfalls and great trekking. An essential part of a trip here is to climb to the top of Pai Ignacio rock to see the sunset, a perfect place to take a picnic and a bottle of champagne.
Take part in Rio Carnival
Shh... Visiting Rio during carnival is an amazing experience but for a real experience that'll get your feet moving and your heart racing, take part in the event itself.
Tell me more... Every year the large samba schools allow non-members to take part in the giant Sambadrome parades which are the centre piece of Rio Carnival. Don't miss out, this is a once in a lifetime 'bucket list' experience! You'll be dancing non-stop to a frenetic samba beat in front of 80,000 passionate fans, all cheering you on and singing their hearts out. It'll make you hot and sweaty and your feet will hurt but for me, it was the best thing I've ever done.
Escape to Alagoas
Shh… The small state of Alagoas is located roughly half way between Recife and Salvador and has some of the best beaches in the country.
Tell me more… The great thing about Alagoas is that it's pretty unknown outside of Brazil, meaning the country's best beaches remain relatively untouched. To get there, take a flight to Maceio, followed by a short transfer to the beautiful town of Barra de Sao Miguel and find your own slice of heaven.
Dine out at South America's best restaurant
Shh… Food is one of the top reasons to visit Sao Paulo, which is home to one of the world's best restaurants.
Tell me more… D.O.M. was recently listed as the 4th best restaurant in the world, and the best in South America, so it's a must for any foodie couples visiting Brazil. Chef Alex Atala combines Brazilian and international flavours (including some obscure Amazon rainforest finds!) to conjure up some culinary sensations. The eight-course tasting menu, including dishes such as grilled oyster with salmon roe and tapioca and braised wild boar with banana puree, is recommended.
Swim with pink river dolphins in the Amazon
Shh… The small jungle town of Novo Airão is home to the Amazon river dolphin, known locally as 'Botos.'
Tell me more… Just as friendly to touch, swim and play with as oceanic dolphin, pink river dolphin have long snouts, which they use to find food in amongst the river weeds. Climb in for a swim at Novo Airão.
